DUFF'S BROOKLYN Pays Tribute To PETER STEELE (Video)
January 5, 2011This past Halloween, Duff's Brooklyn in Williamsburg, Brooklyn paid tribute to late TYPE O NEGATIVE bassist/vocalist Peter Steele in honor of his favorite holiday. A three-and-a-half-minute video clip shot at the event can be viewed below.
Steele passed away on April 14, 2010 from heart failure. He was 48 years old.
When asked by Revolver magazine if Peter was seriously ill before he died, TYPE O NEGATIVE drummer Johnny Kelly said, "No. It was crazy. I called his house three hours before he died. His girlfriend answered the phone. She said he was sick in bed and that he had a flu bug for a couple of days and was throwing up. So I was like, 'OK, tell Peter that Kenny and found a studio. Tell him I hope he feels better and to call me when he's up to it.' We had rehearsal with [Kelly and guitarist Kenny Hickey's current band] SEVENTH VOID that night, and I got a phone call from a number that I didn't recognize, so I let it go to voicemail. It was Peter's sister. I called her back and she said, 'We lost Peter.' I said, 'What do you mean?' And she goes, 'He's gone.'"
Steele was born Petrus T. Ratajczyk on January 4, 1962 in Brooklyn, New York. He stood 6' 7" (201 cm) tall, and had a low, bass-heavy voice, which was one of the most recognizable features in TYPE O NEGATIVE's music.
Before forming TYPE O NEGATIVE, Steele played for the metal group FALLOUT and the thrash band CARNIVORE.
